Covid Recovery

I am a bit of an Economics Nerd.  It fascinates me.  The idea of what money is and how it works (or doesn’t work) could be a fulfilling lifetime study.  I grew up in an Entrepreneurial Family.  My father was a small business owner.  My brothers are small business owners.  I am a small business owner.  My most recent endeavour took a failed local shop and rebuilt it into a thriving business.  I am really proud of those sorts of accomplishments.

Tourism is the backbone of our community however it is labour intensive, ecologically straining and notoriously poor paying for the average worker.  Yet we have an incredible valley to share with the world and eco-tourism gives us the opportunity to educate and lead in what it could mean to be Sustainable.

Development does create well paying jobs but if you look at the limited land we have left to build on you can see that it is not sustainable in the long run and must be balanced with our natural ecology.  We must respect our wildlife as we plan for future development.  Anything less than that and we risk much that makes this valley special.

Covid has markedly changed the game in so many ways but most notably the fact that many people can work from anywhere.  Good paying jobs can be done from nothing more than a cell phone with a good data plan.  We have incredible opportunities here.  Let’s make the most of it.
